Olfactory Ecologies
OLFACTORY ECOLOGIES is an olfactory art exhibition curated by Lowana in partnership with IN ARI and presented at The Old Lockup Maroochydore in 2022. The show invited audiences to experience fragrant new works by nine local artists exploring ecocentric thinking within their distinct contemporary art practices. Considering the vast evidence for impending ecological collapse, this exhibition of new olfactory artworks, soundscape, and accompanying Smell School workshop drew upon the power of smells to reclaim space. In doing so, we aim to softly hold space for affections, rituals, and grievances for oceans, airs, soils, bodies, bees, and trees.
